The International Zen Institute was founded in 1983 by Zen master Gesshin Myoko Prabhasa Dharma in Los Angeles. The aim of the IZI is to propagate Zen Buddhist teaching and practice throughout western society.
In March 2005 IZI moved from Los Angeles to Wapserveen in the Netherlands.

The present spiritual leader of IZI, Jiun Hogen, Roshi lives in the Netherlands. She resides in the International Zen Center Noorder Poort.

Several Zen teachers are connected with IZI and offer various forms of Zen training.

National institutes - IZI's of ..- have been founded in Florida, The Netherlands, Germany and Spain. They support Zen activities on a national and administrative level.
