Kido van der Meulen

Kido was working as a flute teacher when he came across an article in a trade journal about “Zen and the art of music-making”. He was immediately captivated. He began attending Zen retreats at Tiltenberg and Throssel Hole Priory. He then stopped practising Zen for a while. In 2012, he started again with Willem Scheepers in Utrecht, where he took his vows in 2015.

In 2017, he came to the Noorder Poort for a dai sesshin with Jiun Roshi and enjoyed it so much that he decided to live there. In November 2018, he was ordained as an unsui (Zen monk).

In 2022, he filled in as meditation leader at the Dominican monastery in Zwolle, where he has since been leading the introductory courses. Since 2023, he has been leading the ongoing group there together with Suigen Roshi.

At Noorder Poort, he has been leading all work weeks since 2024, and since 2025 he has also been active as a guiding teacher in the home programmes.

On 5 May 2025, he was appointed Zen teacher by Jiun Roshi.
